How to increase performance

I am doing a sync backup of email server files to another server on our network. The email machine and target server specs are more than adequate, and are on a Gigabit network. The main problem is that there are a very large number of small files(500,000+), for a total of about 75 gigs.

A straight copy between the machines takes about 4 hours. A sync backup without compression is taking between 14 and 16 hours. During the backup, processor usage is minimal on both machines, a decent amount of free ram is available, and network utilization averages about 0.25%.

Are there any suggestions for increasing performance? Bumping the process priority doesn't seem to make any difference.

Try to start APBackup on computer where source files are or otherwise where destination folder is (there can be difference in performance). Also if it is possible create a few tasks with different source folders and start them in one time for example.
