Limits of zips and the ways to avoid...question before buy

Hi:

I´m evaluating apbackup, and want to know if the support for bigger zip files like 40gb is included in the product, i already read the notes about winzip9, but it´s not clear to me, if i need to spend in winzip 9 also?, or do i have another free choice for this external app other than winzip?, i dont care if the resultant file is not a zip one, could be another format, but i care about the stability of the format used

any one has comment to this?

You can use 7-zip as external archiver http://www.7-zip.org/7z.html
It is free software.
Also, as far as i know, 7-Zip supports Zip64 extension of ZIP format. So you can try create 40Gb zip archive with built-in archiver and open it in 7-Zip.
