Prefix / Date Format Usage

Having only discovered your program within the past 24 hours, I find it very useful and laced with great potential.
I understand the workings of the "prefix" and "date format" in regard to how it is used to name/identify files placed on target or destination locations. As I see it, APBackup requires a minimum of at last one of those have a specified value and APBackup will permit me to use both at the same time:
Using prefix only produces a "directory" on the destination matching the prefix name. In my case "CFC" is the prefix, so the first time APBackup runs, it creates a new directory on the destination machine named "CFC".
If I also use a date format in conjuction with prefix I get a naming convention on the destination machine like:
CFC20051001 (This is a directory on the destination machine.)
NOW my question is: Why do I have to use a prefix OR a date format at all if my intent is to just copy everything into the default location on my destination machine?
My destination FTP server, has my username associated with a default directory anyway so that my actions are limited to a specific area on the server.
Requiring a prefix and/or a date format seems to impose an unnecessary restriction for just maintaining one copy of files in one location...the default of which is controlled by the destination FTP server.
No criticism intended at all. I really like this software...just trying to understand this feature. Thank you.
