File size of saved pictures

I have just loaded the trial version of TimeToPhoto. When I put a date stamp on a photo, the size of the new .jpg file is considerably reduced from the size of the original file. Does this mean I am loosing quality ?

Ok, I now realise there is box for selecting output quality.
